ZAGREB, February 6, 2018 – Three gay rights groups and a parenting association have filed a complaint against the organisers of a children’s Carnival parade in Kaštela, near Split, because a picture book on same-sex families was burnt as the Carnival effigy in front of several hundred parents and children last Sunday.

The burning of the picture book, which promotes the acceptance of marginalised families, has disturbed LGBTIQ persons, life partners, their families and their children, because it incites hatred towards a minority, discriminated and disenfranchised social group, the four organisations said.

The complaint was filed by Zagreb Pride, the Rijeka-based lesbian organisation Lori, Dugine obitelji (Rainbow Families) and RODA – Parents in Action.

They said that acts like these contribute to the spreading of hostility against LGBTIQ persons and life partners and incite discrimination and violence against them and their families.
