“If what Mamić said is true, then he has brought upon himself even more serious charges than the ones he has been convicted of. If his claims turned out to be true, that would be one of the strongest blows to the foundations of this state, the Croatian judiciary. They would not make Mamić a victim or an innocent person, but an even greater criminal, who not only siphoned money out of Dinamo but also used that money to bribe judges,” MP Nikola Grmoja (Bridge) said In Parliament.

“If Mamić’s claims turned out to be true, they would confirm what we have often talked about. You don’t come under the scrutiny of the Croatian judiciary as long as you enjoy political protection or you don’t come into conflict with those more powerful than you,” he added.

Grmoja said that Croatia was the “vice champion of Europe” in corruption perception, with only Slovakia worse than it.

“I don’t know how (the chairman of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) group in Parliament) Branko Bačić and Prime Minister Andrej Plenković can sleep with this knowledge,” Grmoja said, calling on Mamić to send the memory stick he had sent to the State Prosecutor’s Office (DORH) to him as chairman of the Anti-Corruption Council.

Urgent session of the National Security Council

MP Željko Sačić (Croatian Sovereignists) announced that as a member of the parliamentary National Security Committee he would request an urgent session to discuss the situation in the judicial system and the functioning of the rule of law.

“The least we can do as members of Parliament is to encourage all relevant institutions to investigate all the facts and apply the law accordingly, ” Sačić said, calling for the formation of a parliamentary inquiry commission to look into “this scandal”.
