“I congratulate You and all members of the new Italian government,” Plenković tweeted on his Twitter account in the Italian language.

Plenković wrote that he was looking forward to the cooperation with Draghi in the European Council.

Mario Draghi, the former head of the European Central Bank, took oath as the new premier before President Sergio Mattarella on Saturday.

Mattarella asked Draghi, 73, to be prime minister after party wrangling brought down the previous administration, and set him the task of tackling the coronavirus health crisis and economic meltdown.

The Draghi cabinet is the 67th government in Italy since 1946 and the seventh one in the last ten years.
