He tweeted that the adoption of the reconstruction law created the prerequisites for taking every measure that will make it possible for life to go back to normal, to deal with the earthquake damage, to carry out good and sustainable reconstruction, and to revive the economy in the areas affected.

Plenković also said that the government would amend the Croatian Chamber of Commerce (HGK) Act by 15 July to further ease the burden on businesses.

HDZ whip blames opposition because reconstruction law wasn’t passed sooner

The whip of the ruling HDZ, Branko Bačić, told the press the reconstruction law could have been adopted last Friday had the opposition not broken quorum, blaming them for the fact that it was adopted only today.

As for the opposition’s criticism today that the law was not as good as they expected, he said the law was good and that they need not have supported it if they thought it was bad.

Bačić dismissed the opposition’s claims that a conclusion parliament adopted today, tasking the government with drafting a HGK reform by summer, was actually the HDZ buying time before local elections in May. “It’s not a pre-election attempt to fool the public, but the ruling majority’s firm stand to reform the HGK.”

He said the HDZ parliamentary group and the party itself wanted and would reorganise, reform and rebuild the HGK.

Asked if the same was being planned for the Croatian Chamber of Trades and Crafts, Bačić said every institution was a separate story and should be approached with due attention.
