President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović to Participate in NATO Summit in Warsaw

Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović will take part in the NATO Summit which will take place on Friday and Saturday in Warsaw, Poland, announced the Office of the President on Wednesday.

The opening ceremony of the NATO summit will be held on Friday, with the opening speech by the NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and the welcome address by Polish President Andrzej Duda, after which, in the working part of the summit, Croatian President will make a speech on the subject of collective defence and deterrence.

On the second day of the NATO summit on Saturday, President Grabar-Kitarović will participate in meetings at the level of heads of state and government which will discuss the issues of Afghanistan and of the continuation of the mission Resolute Support, and how to project stability in the southern neighbourhood of the Alliance, said the statement.

On the sidelines of the NATO Summit, a special conference will take place on Friday, organized by the Polish Institute of International Affairs and the Forum on Global Security – GLOBSEC, at which President Grabar-Kitarović will give a lecture on the role of NATO in maintaining peace.

The summit, in addition to heads of state and government and ministers of defence and foreign affairs of the 28 NATO member states, will also be attended by the President of the European Council, the President of the European Commission, representatives of the United Nations, the World Bank and other partners of the Alliance.

This will be the first NATO summit that Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović will attend as Croatian President. From 2011 to 2014, she was the NATO Assistant Secretary General for Public Diplomacy.
