Refugees will just pass through Croatia from now on, without disembarking
Croatian Minister of Interior Vlaho Orepič and General Police Director Vlado Dominić greeted the police officers before they head off to the border between Macedonian and Greece where they will help their foreign colleagues with the transit of refugees and migrants arriving to Europe, RTL reports on February 9, 2016.
Minister Orepić announced that a new regime will be implemented in terms of transit and data collection. He also announced that the refugee camp in Slavonski Brod will close and that the same will happen with refugee camps in Serbia and Slovenia.
“Refugees will only stop in Croatia to change locomotives and to allow the change of police officers securing the trains. Furthermore, medical assistance will be provided if necessary” Orepić said.
When asked what will happen if someone in Macedonia expresses a wish to stay in Croatia and seek asylum, Minister answered that in that case, he or she will disembark in Croatia. Governments of Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia, Macedonia and Austria all agreed on this new regime of transportation of refugees. 20 Croatian police officers wil be stationed on the Greek -.Macedonian border and they will stay there until February 23, 2016: “Their task is to provide secure passage and monitor the route until refugees reach their final destination” Dominić explained.
