Russian President Putin Awards Order of Friendship to Zagreb Mayor Bandić

Total Croatia News

The only other Croat to receive the honour is footballer Ivica Olić.

By a special decree issued by Russian President Vladimir Putin, Mayor of Zagreb Milan Bandić has been awarded the Russian Order of Friendship, reports tportal.hr on August 20, 2018.

In addition to Bandić, the honour has been given to Vice President of Burundi Joseph Butore, General Pavel Muraveyko, two Vietnamese scientists, and others.

The Order is given for special contributions in building international relations, and the mayor of Zagreb is the second Croat after footballer Ivica Olić to whom it has been presented.

Unlike Croats, Serbs are much more like to receive the honour. Among others, the Order of Friendship has been presented to film director Emir Kusturica, Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dačić, and former Serbian President Tomislav Nikolić.
