June the 4th, 2025 – The gorgeous Istrian city of Poreč was presented in Munch on Croatian Statehood Day this year, with those present getting better acquainted with Croatia’s largest peninsula.
As Istriaterramagica writes, the Croatian Consulate in Munich organised a ceremony on June the 2nd this year to celebrate Croatian Statehood Day. It brought together numerous politicians, cultural and economic figures from across Bavaria, including the Bavarian Minister of Tourism and various representatives of the tourism sector.
At the invitation of the Consul General of the Republic of Croatia in Munich, Vladimir Duvnjak, the co-organiser of the ceremony was the champion of Croatian tourism – Poreč. Together with the Poreč Tourist Board, everything beautiful Poreč has to offer was presented on Croatian Statehood Day, with plenty of local Istrian delicacies enjoyed. Poreč was also presented as a twin city of the German city of Poing, with which it signed an Agreement on Cooperation and the Establishment of Friendly Relations back in 2013. The parishes of Poreč and Poing were twinned a year later.

Poreč Mayor Loris Peršurić thanked Consul Duvnjak for the invitation, stating the following:
“Here in Germany, you’re building bridges that connect Croatia with Bavaria and Germany, as well as numerous Croatian cities – including Poreč – with our guests, our emigrants, German businessmen and friends. Poreč is a city with more than 2,000 years of history, located on the western coast of Istria, where culture, tourism, entrepreneurship and quality of life all meet. We’re a city that cherishes tradition, but always looks to the future. Poreč is one of the most developed cities in all of Croatia – both in terms of the local economy, education and the standard of living. In this development, Germany, and particularly Bavaria, has a crucial part to play.
That’s not only because we have strong economic ties with Germany, but because we also have partner cities, a lot of tourists, but above all – sincere friends. That’s why we’re here not only to celebrate Croatian Statehood Day, but also to further solidify this friendship. It’s a friendship that has lasted, grown and been based on mutual respect and cooperation. We’re proud of our cooperation, we’re proud of all of you who carry Croatia in your hearts, and of all of those who act as a bridge between the two countries,” said Peršurić.
The Consul General said that every year, the Consulate invites a guest to celebrate Croatian Statehood Day, in order to present Croatia and its economic and tourist offer.

It’s therefore no surprise at all that for Poreč was once again the host of this presentation on Croatian Statehood Day. It has been crowned the champion of Croatian tourism and, as always, it presented itself perfectly to the Bavarians who otherwise adore Istria. I think you have a mayor who represents your city worthily, both through a speech and through the video presentation in which Poreč was presented and we got to see how much it is progressing. That’s why it’s always a pleasure for us to present this city,” said Consul Duvnjak.
The ceremony also included a presentation by the Poreč Tourist Board, and guests were given promotional materials about the city and served Istrian specialties such as wine, olive oil, truffles, cod, and prosciutto.
“The presentation in Munich means a lot to us because 40% of our guests from the German-speaking area are from here. This time, we tried to present ourselves in the best possible light,” said the director of the Poreč Tourist Board, Nenad Velenik.
