February the 22nd, 2025 – A 15.3 million euro renovation for Zadar Airport is on the cards, which will see it get a totally new look and an expansion.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, an extensive renovation for Zadar Airport will see it get a completely new look and expansion. The building is scheduled to undergo complex reconstruction and extension works worth millions, which will be carried out across four phases. Things will all begin with the sub-phase 3, which refers to a separate spatial expansion, and the contractor for that is is Krekić Avangard. The total value of the works stands at a whopping 15.3 million euros, according to Bauštela.hr.

The renovation of the Zadar Airport building itself, as well as the entire extension project, envisages the gradual expansion and replacement of the existing passenger building with a new one through four phases of work. The complex project will include several functional units, including the actual passenger building.

The sub-phase refers to the expansion of departures (gates) and arrivals in the existing passenger building. It should be noted that all functions will be retained within the existing building during the course of the works. Back in September 2024, the procurement procedure was carried out and the contractor Krekić Avangard was selected. After the contracting process, which began with the selection of the most favourable contractor, on February the 13th, news arrived about the award of a contract worth 15,324,909.46 million euros, including VAT.

The works should take fourteen months to complete after things finally get going and it is all put into operation. In terms of construction, this sub-phase will be built on expansion joint A, which is spatially separated from the rest of the complex. The drafts of the projected state also show temporary building B as the subject of a separate building permit. This is because it will remain in the function of additional waiting rooms and gates until the end of the construction of the final phase of the renovation of Zadar Airport.

These interventions will be carried out on the appropriate cadastral plot, in close accordance with the amendment to the obtained location permit and according to the project documentation. The “Main Study for the Development of Zadar Airport was prepared by the companies Aking, Markiva Projekt and Zagreb Airport. The winning project task was the work of architects Ante Kuzmanić and Ivan Jurić from the Ante Kuzmanić Architectural Bureau from Split.

As a reminder, the contractor Krekić Avangard was selected for the initial phase of the works based on the criterion of the most favourable offer. Of the five bids received, the remaining four bidders Kamgrad, Strabag, Tromont and Texo Molior were rejected due to exceeding the secured funds for the procurement.

Although the start of the renovation and improvement of Zadar Airport was announced for the end of October, the award of the contract worth 15.3 million euros has only just been rubber stamped. This means that the works could soon start.

It’s worth noting that back in August 2023, 10 million euros were secured from the for the expansion and renovation of Zadar Airport, albeit for the greening and electrification project as part of the extension. Judging by the amount set aside for the implementation of this initial sub-phase of the reconstruction alone, the total amount of the airport transformation could exceed several tens of millions of euros.
