June the 19th, 2026 – Rimac has begun producing battery systems for BMW i7 in Croatia, turning yet another page in the company’s already impressive portfolio.

As Index reports, Rimac Technology has officially started production of high-voltage battery systems for the new electric BMW i7. The move is representative of yet another major step forward in the company’s expansion from electric hypercars into large-scale automotive supply.

The battery systems are being manufactured at the Rimac Campus near Zagreb, where the company has established dedicated production lines and a new supply chain designed to meet the standards of a global premium car manufacturer.

The cooperation between Rimac and BMW Group began back in 2023 and has resulted in a jointly developed battery system that combines BMW’s latest battery cell technology with Rimac’s battery architecture and engineering expertise. The system uses BMW’s Gen6 4695 cylindrical lithium-ion cells together with a Gen5 module-based design, creating a scalable platform intended to improve energy density, driving range and charging performance.

The battery packs produced in Croatia will be delivered to BMW’s plant in Dingolfing, Germany, where the vehicles are assembled. The BMW i7 will become the first fully electric BMW model to feature a battery system developed through this partnership.

Rimac Technology has invested heavily in transforming its Zagreb-area campus into a facility capable of handling high-volume industrial production. The company says it has built two production lines and developed an end-to-end manufacturing process in just a few years, positioning itself as a Tier 1 supplier for major global carmakers.

For Rimac, the project represents a shift from being known primarily for electric performance vehicles to becoming a supplier of advanced electric vehicle components for the wider automotive industry. Its portfolio includes high-voltage battery systems, electric drive systems, electronics and software solutions.

The partnership also highlights Croatia’s growing (and already major) role in the European electric vehicle supply chain, as more manufacturers seek locally produced battery technology and components.
