May the 21st, 2025 – Croatia is (in)famous for its slow trains, so why not make the best of it? The Slow Wine Train Via Slavonia and Baranja would like to introduce the Osijek-Erdut Pop-Up Wine Line.
Did you know that one of the slowest trains in all of Europe runs between Osijek and Erdut? This was confirmed by personal research by Paul Bradbury. On May the 20th, 2025 at 12:00, that train left Osijek station, this time as the Slow Wine Train.

The Osijek-Baranja County Tourist Board decided to celebrate the RECEVIN Dionisio title of European Wine Region for 2025 with this event. It also wanted to present Osijek-Baranja County Wine Month, as well as the third issue of the already well-known destination magazine Via Slavonija i Baranja, whose themes are green, sustainable and hospitable.

The participants boarded the train in Osijek, where the wine journey to Erdut began. At the entrance, passengers were greeted with transport tickets handed out by a charming conductor.
During the ride through the flat, fertile Slavonian landscapes, selected wines from the Erdut vineyards from the wineries Vina Erdut, Siber, Brzica, Antunović, Magistra, Royal Hill, K55, Danubio and Jakovac were tasted. The train driver of this tasting was the famous Osijek wine expert Damir Zrno, and carefully selected Danube cheeses, nuts and fruits were also served with a glass of wine.

Upon arrival in Erdut on the Slow Wine Train, the participants visited the Vina Erdut winery, where they were greeted with sparkling wine, strawberries and a walk through the vineyards overlooking the Danube. Visitors also had the opportunity to learn more about the winery’s new products, planned projects and upcoming events, such as the Wine&Paint workshops that are often held here.

After Erdut, the Slow Wine Train adventure continued towards Aljmaš. In the beautiful surroundings of the K55 winery and distillery, a tour of the cellars and centuries-old vineyards of Graševina and Kadarka, rescued from oblivion, was organised. It was here that the third issue of the destination magazine Via Slavonija i Baranja was officially presented, bringing about new wine stories, eno-gastro recommendations and inspiration for exploring Slavonia and Baranja.

Along with wines and vineyard delicacies enjoyed at the wine picnic, visitors enjoyed the beautiful view of the confluence of the Drava and the Danube rivers. The K55 winery and distillery otherwise organises wine picnics every Saturday in May and June.

The return to Osijek also took place aboard the Slow Wine Train, with a pleasant musical surprise for all passengers, which further rounded off this unique wine-oriented story.
The Slow Wine Train was not just your average train journey, but a unique experience of the Danube terroir, an encounter with local wines, landscapes and people who come together to create the finest wines of this region with their hard work and efforts.

The event was co-financed by the European Union within the framework of the international cooperation Interreg Danube through the #RomansWineDanube project.
