May the 22nd, 2025 – Zadar Airport has stepped up its disability awareness by installing new communication boards intended for both adults and children with communication and speech difficulties.
As Morski writes, two new communication boards have been installed at Zadar Airport in close collaboration with the SENZO Educational and Rehabilitation Practice, also based in Zadar. They have been installed for children and adults who deal with various communication and speech difficulties.
The new communication boards were designed and created by masters of educational rehabilitation Danijela Budimir Čirjak and Jadranka Bubić.
The new Zadar Airport communication boards will act as a form of visual support, thus enabling people with speech difficulties to communicate their wishes, needs and feelings more clearly within the structured yet often chaotic environment of the airport. They are based on the principles of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), and are adapted to different age groups, as well as to different levels of language and speech development.
They are intended primarily for children and adults diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, in which communication abilities can be hindered to a large degree. They’re also intended for people with intellectual disabilities or other difficulties of various etiologies that affect poorer speech expression. They are also there to be utilised by all people dealing with either temporary or permanent communication difficulties.
The project carries a strong inclusive message – by ensuring appropriate access to information and communication, Zadar Airport confirms its commitment to accessibility, equality and creating a supportive and accepting space for all its passengers.
