July 31, 2024 – The 29-year-old judoka Barbara Matić has won Croatia’s first gold medal at the Olympic Games in Paris!

The unstoppable Barbara Matić won the Olympic gold medal in judo in the category of up to 70 kilograms. Matić defeated German judoka Miriam Butkereit and brought Croatia its second medal at these Olympic Games. Miran Maričić won the bronze medal in the ten-meter air rifle final a few days ago.

The judoka from Split club Pujanke, who was the top seed of the tournament, has thus won her first Olympic medal in her third attempt and added this precious piece of hardware to her already impressive list of medals won at major competitions.

Matić is a two-time world champion. She also won the European Championship this year and has three titles at Grand Slam tournaments and five golds at the Grand Prix. On top of all that, she is also a two-time junior champion.

Bravo, Barbara!
