Borna Ćorić has advanced to the second round of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Monte Carlo where he will face Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic.

Borna Ćorić has advanced to the round of 32 at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Monte Carlo after defeating Julien Benneteau 6:2, 6:3. The victory took just over an hour, and Ćorić ended it with four stolen serves and two out of three rescued breaks, reports Gol.hr on April 16, 2018.

The Croatian tennis player was excellent at his first individual appearance on clay courts this season, but he already awaits a big test in the next match – former world number one Novak Djokovic, who defeated his countryman Dušan Lajovic 6:0, 6:1.

Marian Vajda, the legendary coach Djokovic collaborated with while he was at the top, has returned to the player’s side in Monte Carlo. Vajda is known to be Novak’s mentor and has acted as a second father to the player since he was 19.

“Marian’s return has awakened many positive emotions. We’ve been working together the last ten days, and I feel physically better. After two years, I do not feel any pain,” said Serbian tennis player.

Djokovic has claimed the Monte Carlo Masters title twice (2015 and 2013), and Ćorić, against Benneteau, celebrated his first win at this tournament.

Marin Čilić, in the absence of Roger Federer, is the second seed of the tournament and was thus free of play in the first round. In the second round, Čilić awaits the winner of the match between Fernando Verdasco and Pablo Cuevas.

Apart from chasing after the world number one title this year, Čilić will also marry the love of his life this month. Čilić and Kristina Milković, who have been together for eight years, will marry in Dubrovnik on April 28th. After a church ceremony in Cavtat, the couple and nearly 400 guests will head to Dubrovnik’s Revelin for a celebration.
