Tin Srbić became the World Gymnastics Champion in October 2017.

Current World Gymnastics Champion Tin Srbić has advanced to the finals of the World Cup tournament in Doha. In his first appearance after more than five months, Tin scored 14,333 points, making him fourth in qualifications with a place in Saturday’s final amount the eight best, reports Index.hr on March 22, 2018.

The only gymnasts better than him in the competition was China’s Ruoteng Xiao (14,833) and Shudi Deng (14,500) and Frenchman Edgar Boulet (14,533). However, Tin did not fulfil his great desire to fight in the final with one of the best gymnasts of all time, Kohei Uchimura. The Japanese gymnast, unfortunately, did flourish another day in Doha, and in the qualifying round finished in 10th place and came in as a second reserve for the finals.

“I did not compete for a long time, more than five months, and I have to admit that it was not the same. I was trembling; I was not as relaxed as I normally was in World Cup competitions. But, I went through the exercise solidly – I did not have the strongest start, but it’s a tough exercise. I think I did it right, the score was good and I’m happy. Of course, it could be even better, and there were a few small mistakes, but all in all, I’m happy with it. And for the finals… We’ll see, maybe I’ll do the exercise from the Montreal World Cup finals with a start of 6.4 or this one from today’s 6.1 qualifications. When I see who my competition is in the final, then I will decide the tactics with coach Lucijan Krce. However, I am delighted with this. I had a lot of problems after the World Cup, so I am happy that I managed to do the exercise right here,” commented the world champion Tin Srbić after qualifying.

Another Croatian representative on the ground is Tin’s teammate Anton Kovačević, the bronze medalist last weekend at the World Cup in Baku, who finished 12th with 13,000 points among the 34 highest.

Ana Đerek, who won the gold medal in Baku four days ago, finished with 12,433 points in 16th place among 37 girls.

In the competition of 39 gymnasts on the beam, Đerek finished 27th (11,400), and debutant Petra Furač scored 33rd place (10,366).
