Croatian Cup: Dinamo, Hajduk, Rijeka, Osijek Advance to Quarters

The results of Wednesday’s afternoon games in the round of 16 of the Croatian Cup came as no surprise.

Dinamo, Slaven Belupo, Osijek, Hajduk and Rijeka have all passed into the quarterfinals of the Croatian Cup, joining Lokomotiva and Inter Zaprešić from the Croatian First League in the next round of the competition. Third-league club NK Vinogradar from Jastrebarsko is the only club outside of Croatia’s top league to play in the quarterfinals, reports HNS on October 31, 2018. 

Dinamo defeated Zelina in the Croatian Cup round of 16

Reigning Croatian Cup champions Dinamo defeated Zelina with a goal by Gavranović at the end of the first half, but in the final ten minutes, the Europa League heroes managed to score another three goals (one by Petković, and two goals by Kadzior) and held their advantage in the game until the end. 

Belupo broke Marsonia, Osijek overcame Krk in the Croatian Cup round of 16

Slaven Belupo broke the resistance of Marsonia thanks to a goal by Bogojević in the 60th minute, and Osijek convincingly hit five goals in the back of the net against Krk for a final score of 1:5. Dugandžić scored twice for Osijek while Marić, Hajradinović and Pilj each hit one. The only goalscorer for Krk was Brdar.

Vinogradar is the only third-league club in the Croatian Cup quarterfinals

In the third-league duel, Vinogradar met Jadran LP to win 4:2. Prijić scored twice for Vinogradar, while Šćrbec and Bjelanović added to Vinogradar’s lead with one goal each. Primorac scored a penalty for Jadran while Šutalo scored their second. 

Hajduk defeated Šibenik in extra time in the Croatian Cup round of 16 

In the highly anticipated Hajduk and Šibenik game, Šibenik took the lead already in the 14th minute of the match with an own goal by Ivanovski. In the 59th minute, Pecolaj was excluded from the match with a red card, and Hajduk’s Said was able to get a goal 87 minutes in to equalize and bring the game to extra time. In the 119th minute, Jurić’s goal took Hajduk into the quarterfinals.

Rijeka overcame Varaždin in the Croatian Cup round of 16 

The last match of the round of 16 was played between Varaždin and Rijeka, who secured the lead with Puljić’s goal in the third minute. Benko equalized for Varaždin in the 27th minute, though it was Colak to score for Rijeka in the 94th minute for the 1:2 win and a place in the quarterfinals. 

In Tuesday’s games, Lokomotiva defeated Zadar and Inter Zaprešić overcame Istra to also advance to the quarterfinals.
