Croatian tennis players continue to dominate in doubles competitions on the ATP Tour.
Croatian Davis Cup representative Ivan Dodig and American Rajeev Ram advanced to the finals of the ATP tournament in Munich after defeating German Davis Cup duo Puetz-Struff 6-1, 6-3 in the semifinal match, reports Gol.hr on May 5, 2018.
This is Dodig and Ram’s first final together, in which they will face Zagreb’s Nikola Mektić and Austria’s Alexander Pey, who defeated Brazil’s Melo and Poland’s Kubot in the semifinal on Friday. Mektić and Peya advanced to the finals after an extended tie-break where, at 5:5, they won five consecutive points.
Ivan Dodig, in partnership with Nikola Mektić, brought the Croatian Davis Cup team an important point in the quarterfinals against Kazakhstan in Varaždin. On Sunday, however, the duo will play against one another, and Dodig will hunt for his tenth ATP title in doubles. Dodig has thus won six titles with Marcelo Melo, two with Marcel Granollers and one with Mate Pavić.
Mektić and Peya won the title this year in Marrakech and lost in the finals in Sofia and Rio de Janeiro. Apart from playing with his partner Peya, Mektić won two titles with Brian Baker in 2017 and is looking for his fourth championship trophy.
Sunday’s ATP tournament finals in Munich are scheduled for 12:00.
