Žnjan Beach will host the Davis Cup semifinals between Croatia and the USA!

The World Group of the Davis Cup semifinals between Croatia and the USA will be held in Split from September 14 to 16, 2018, announced the Croatian Tennis Federation on Wednesday. The teams will play on outdoor clay courts, according to the wishes of the Croatian tennis players, reports Slobodna Dalmacija on May 30, 2018.

Since no tennis stadium in Croatia can meet the conditions provided by Davis Cup for this level of competition, the courts, stands, and all necessary infrastructure will be built specifically for this semifinal. The famous Žnjan beach was chosen as the location for the event in the Dalmatian capital, which will hold up to 6,000 spectators. The last time Split hosted the Croatia tennis team was at the Spaladium Arena against Serbia in 2010.

On this occasion, the Croatian Tennis Federation wishes to thank the City of Split and, in particular, Split Mayor Andro Krstulović Opara, who expressed his interest and willingness to host the semifinals of the tennis world championships as a co-organizer.

The Federation also sends thanks to the City of Zadar and Pula for their interest in organizing the semifinal spectacle.

On their way to the semifinals this year, Croatia defeated Canada in the first round and Kazakhstan in the quarterfinals. The USA team reached the semifinals after defeating Serbia 3:1 and Belgium 4:0.

Croatia has yet to lose to the USA in the Davis Cup and hopes to reach the 2018 Davis Cup Final against either France or Spain. Croatia has won all four meetings to date between the two nations – in 2003, 2005, 2009 and 2016.
