Dinamo started its Champions League participation with away match in Lyon
The Croatian champion started its Champions League quest on September 14. 2016, and lost to Lyon 0-3. Lyon was always the better team on the pitch, and luckily for Dinamo, the French vice-champions eased their pressure in the last quarter of the game.
Dinamo’s players seemed impressed with the big stage of the Champions League at the beginning of the match, and Lyon was ahead with just 13 minutes on the clock, when Tolisso headed Rafael’s cross from the right flank to the net.
Lyon kept on pushing throughout the first half, but was not able to score, and Dinamo had only one attempt in the first 45 minutes.
Just four minutes into the second half, the left side of Dinamo’s defense was unable to stop Lyon’s attack, and Ferri chipped the ball over the Dinamo’s goalkeeper Šemper.
Eight minutes later, it was all over as Cornet scored an easy shot after he got clear off the Croatian defense.
Dinamo will play Juventus at home in the second round of the Champions League, and will have to do a much better job to avoid one more defeat in the European competition.
