July 30, 2024 – Croatian tennis player Donna Vekić has advanced to the quarterfinals of the Olympic Games in Paris!
Vekić defeated the #2 tennis player in the world Coco Gauff 7:6 (7), 6:2.
“It was a really good match. I don’t know what to say, I haven’t had time to cool down yet. It was a very high level of tennis, and I’m proud of myself. The best match I ever played on clay, and the biggest victory. I played really good tennis,” Vekić said after the match against Gauff.
“I hope you will watch me in a few more matches,” she added with a smile.
“At the beginning of the year, the Olympic Games were one of my biggest goals for this year, and now I’m in the quarterfinals. I’m only thinking about the next match,” said Vekić, who added that she is not yet sure whether she will play mixed doubles later in the day with Mate Pavić. It was later decided that she would not.
In the end, Vekić said that the support in the stadium was incredible and that it brought her back to life in the first set, which she won after a big upset.
Donna will play for a spot in the semifinals on Wednesday, July 31st.
Bravo, Donna!
