October 15, 2023 – The Croatia national team suffered a defeat to Wales in Cardiff in the EURO 2024 qualifiers on Sunday.

The Croatia national team lost 1-2 (0-0) away to Wales in Cardiff in the EURO 2024 Group D qualifiers, thus reaching an unenviable position ahead of the last two rounds to be played in November. This is Croatia’s second defeat in a row, after losing to Turkey in Osijek. Only once has Croatia experienced two defeats in a row – in the qualifiers for the World Cup 10 years ago, when they lost to Belgium and Scotland.

Both goals for Wales were scored by Harry Wilson, the first in the 47th minute after a reckless return ball from Kovačić, and the second in the 60th minute. Mario Pašalić scored in the 75th minute for 2-1, heading the ball into the net from Modrić’s corner.

Croatia and Wales now have 10 points each from six matches played and occupy second and third place in the standings. However, Wales has the advantage, so Croatia no longer depends only on itself in the fight for a spot in Germany.

At the top is Turkey, which after a 4-0 (0-0) victory against Latvia, secured one of the first two places in the group leading to the EURO with 16 points. Armenia is in fourth with seven points, while Latvia is at the bottom with three points.

Croatia will still play against Latvia on November 18 in Riga and against Armenia on November 21 in Zagreb, while Wales will visit Armenia on November 18 and host Turkey three days later. In order to qualify for the EURO, Croatia must win more points than Wales in those matches.
