The Croatia Match Cup in Poreč, has been taking place this week from Thursday, May 25, 2017 and concludes tomorrow on Sunday 28, May. It is an event on the world tour level and 2017 is the first year it has been held in Croatia since 2007. The top two teams from the event will qualify to the World Championship Match Cup in America, September, 2017. The second round-robin will continue on Sunday, followed by the semi-finals and finals.
The second day of the Croatia Match Cup regatta Poreč 2017 was perfectly executed by the Croatian crew. Skipper Šime Fantela was extremely pleased the way he and his team from Croatia Match Racing Team sailed, which was reflected by the score. Unlike yesterday, they managed to take advantage of the start, so they ended the day with 4 wins and 1 defeat. The second round-robin continues on Sunday, as the races planned for Saturday afternoon were aborted due to low winds. After the remaining RR2 racing on Sunday, the programme includes both the semi-finals and finals, where the two best crew will compete. The sailors have an especially demanding Sunday which will require plenty of strength compared to Saturday when tactics and experience was the name of the game.
The Croatia Match Cup Poreč 2017 semi-finals will see four crews with the most points in RR1 and RR2, with the Croatia Match Racing Team potentially included as they continue to improve each day. Croatian sailors are currently in fifth place which they share with the Danish crew of Jonas Warrer and Swede Mans Holmberg is currently in fourth place. However, it will be a close finish, as the difference in points between the first six teams is truly insignificant. Sunday’s racing could see everything change, which is exactly what this level of sport is all about!
