December 2, 2024 – Hajduk achieved a crucial victory against Dinamo in the 15th round of the SuperSport HNL on Sunday at Poljud, deservedly beating the Croatian champion 1-0.
Canadian-Croatian Niko Sigur scored in the 54th minute in front of 33,502 fans, moving Hajduk three points ahead of second-placed Rijeka and seven points ahead of third-placed Dinamo. A huge advantage with the winter break just a few games away.
The ‘eternal’ Croatian derby was interrupted three times due to flares, with the Bad Blue Boys launching flares into the fans in the West stands during the second and at photographers on the pitch. Fortunately, no one was injured.
The match began cautiously on both sides, leaving little excitement in the first 15 minutes. The first shot was recorded in the 15th minute by Stipe Biuk. Two minutes later, Anthony Kalik also took a chance but was equally imprecise.
Dinamo threatened for the first time in the 25th minute when Arber Hoxha shot from the edge of the penalty area, but Ivan Lučić was there to save the day. Dinamo had the best chance in the 38th minute when Baturina passed on the right side and sent the ball into the middle, but Kačavenda was too late to get there.
Hajduk entered the second half much better and full of energy — which is why they deservedly took the lead in the 54th minute. Diallo crossed from the left side, Kalik nutmegged the ball, and Baturina hesitated to clear it. Sigur was there to swoop the ball from the Dinamo player, quickly turned and shot for 1-0, forcing the stadium into an eruption of noise.
Six minutes later, Marko Livaja also had a chance, but Zagorac defended brilliantly. Dinamo pressed at the end of the match but did not create any real chances. In the 89th minute, Dinamo was left without Marko Rog, who was first shown a yellow by the referee Patrik Kolarić, and after a VAR review, a red card for a foul on Krovinović.
The match ended 1-0 for Hajduk, showing again that Gennaro Gattuso’s team is a force to be reckoned with this season.
