On October 28, 1950 the Torcida story began in the middle of Pjaca in Split.
Torcida was established on 28 October 1950 by group of students Vjenceslav Žuvela, Ante Dorić, Ante Ivanišević, Šime Perković, Pocrnjić, Tičić, Vlado Mikulić. In an effort to stage an unprecedented spectacle before the football match against Red Star Belgrade, the students gathered to help their club – following the example of Brazilian fan groups. On 29 October, Hajduk beat Red Star 2–1, and went on to win the championship without a single defeat, which has yet to be surpassed. From that moment on, Torcida has remained as alive as ever.
For 66 years, Torcida has faithfully followed Hajduk – through the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. A symbol of Split, just like Hajduk, Torcida has members from not only the whole of Croatia, but from all over the world.
In honor of Torcida’s 66th birthday, a 3-day program is in effect, reports Slobodna Dalmacija.
Representatives of Torcida this morning placed wreaths at the north stand of the stadium at Poljud, next to the memorial for the fallen members of the Patriotic War. They were also joined by representatives of Hajduk.
This evening at 18h, wreaths will be set at the memorial for all of the fallen and deceased in the field of the urban district Pujanke.
Tomorrow evening, a big birthday party is planned for the fans at the famous Split beach Obojena svjetlost (22h). All proceeds from the tickets (at a cost of 20kn) will go towards decorating the room of the Boxing club Torcida.
The highlight of the celebration will be on Sunday for Hajduk’s match against Osijek at Poljud (17h). The fans will meet before the match in large numbers in the Pjaca and will march to the stadium together. Special choreography will be organized across the North Stand, paying special tribute to the deceased former President of Torcida Žan Ojdanić who died in April of this year.
