January the 6th, 2024 – Croatian national team captain Luka Modrić is among the 23 nominees for the 2023 FIFA FIFPRO Men’s World 11 team.
Nearly 22,000 men’s football players have voted for their team of the year. The World 11 is the only global football award decided exclusively by professional footballers who are members of the FIFPRO, which is the worldwide representative organisation for 65,000 professional footballers.
FIFA FIFPRO Men’s World 11 nominees are the 23 players who received the most votes from their peers based on their performance between 19 December 2022 and 20 August 2023. Players must have appeared in at least 23 official matches during that period, and it’s no surprise that Luka Modrić has proven so popular.
The goalkeeper, three defenders, three midfielders and three forwards who have received the most votes will be selected for the World 11. The final spot in the World 11 will be assigned to the remaining outfield player with the next highest number of votes. FIFA and FIFPRO will announce the World 11 on Monday the 15th of January 2024 at The Best FIFA Football Awards in London.
Modric has been selected to the FIFA FIFPRO Men’s Wolrd 11 in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2022. Additionally, Modric won The Best FIFA Men’s Player award in 2018 after guiding Croatia to the World Cup final and winning the UEFA Champions League.
