Luka Modrić arrived in Milan by private plane at on Monday around 11 am and underwent a medical before officially signing for AC Milan.
According to Italian media, the Croatia captain has already chosen the number 14 jersey. He will sign a one-year contract, with an option to extend for another year.
After more than two hours, at 2:53 pm, Modrić completed his usual medical. Journalists surrounded the car in which he was heading to the Centro Ambrosiano. Modrić got out and greeted everyone briefly, keeping the rear window down the entire time. It was revealed that he was due to sign the contract at around 5 pm.
Upon his arrival, Luka was smiling and in a good mood, but not too talkative. He only said that he was “glad to be here and looking forward to new challenges” and that “there will be time for talks.”
“He is a fantastic player, one of the best in the world. He is also a great person, as well as one of the best players. A great addition to AC Milan. He will bring experience. He is a big name coming to a big club, my favorite in Italy,” commented Chelsea and England footballer John Terry.
After a long last season at Real Madrid, where he made 73 appearances, he will not be going into action immediately. After he signs the contract, he is expected to fly to Zagreb this evening, as he will first need a well-deserved break before joining his new team.
He will come back for training on August 4, when his break ends and a new era officially begins for him after a fantastic 13 years in Madrid.
