In a rematch of the last year’s finals he once again beat Roberto Bautista Agut
Marin Cilic, Croatia’s best ranked tennis player, defended his singles title at the ATP Kremlin Cup 2015 tournament on October 25 2015, topping the No.2 seed Roberto Bautista Agut 6-4, 6-4.
This was a rematch from last year’s finals and interestingly enough, neither of the two players had played in an ATP tournament final since their last meeting at the very same court. This match will go down in history as the first time in ATP’s 26 year history that the same two players competed in consecutive finals and ended up with the exact same scoreline.
It took Cilic 1 hour and 28 minutes to defeat the Spaniard and this now means that he won at least one ATP title every season since 2008.
“I don’t think I felt very confident in the first four or five games, but it got better after that”, said Cilic “I’m glad the result was repeated in the end”. When asked which title was sweater, this one or last year’s Marin answered “Both, but in a different way. Last year’s was very emotional for me and this year is a little different. I felt more relaxed on the court and it is always more difficult to defend the title than to win in for the first time. The Kremlin Cup has become very special to me and I cannot wait to come back here next year”.
With this win, Cilic now rose to No. 11 in the Emirates ATP Race to London, but unfortunately, David Ferrer’s two subsequent wins in Vienna have eliminated Marin from taking one of the two remaining spots at the Barclay’s APT World Tour Finals.
