On His 29th Birthday, Rakitić Signs Contract with Barcelona until 2021

Ivan Rakitić turned 29 today and signed a new contract with FC Barcelona. 

Two days after the stunning victory against PSG and on his 29th birthday, Ivan Rakitić signed a new contract with Barcelona until 2021. The contract includes a compensation clause of 125 million euros, which is the amount interested clubs would have to pay for the Croatian national, reports Index.hr on March 10, 2017. In Rakitić’s old contract, the player earned around 4 million euros per year and the details of his new contract are not yet known.

FC Barcelona’s twitter account was full of praise for Rakitić today.

Rakitić came to Barcelona in the summer of 2014 from Sevilla for 18 million euros. He has made 145 appearances for the club, scoring 23 goals with 18 assists.
