As the second-seed of the tournament, Martić went on to win her first ever WTA title.
Croatian tennis player Petra Martić (WTA-47) impressively came to the first WTA title of her career, winning the WTA tournament in Chicago on Sunday with a $125,000 prize pool. Martić defeated German player Mona Barthel (WTA-111) 6:4, 6:1, reports Gol.hr on September 9, 2018.

Martić justified her second-seed status in Chicago without losing a single set in the tournament. In the 1st round, Petra defeated American Jamie Loeb (6:1, 6:3), in the 2nd round, she was better than Bulgarian player Sesil Karatantcheva (6:4, 6:2), in the quarterfinal, she overcame American player Varvara Lepchenko (7:5, 7:6) and in the semifinal, she triumphed over German player Tatjana Maria (6:1, 6:2).

With this title, the 27-year-old tennis player from Duće has won 160 points and 24,000 USD, while Barthel earned 95 points and 13,500 USD.
Martić also played in the final of the WTA tournament in Bucharest this year, but was unable to overcome Anastasia Sevastova to clinch the title.
With these points, Petra Martić will rank 38th place on the individual WTA charts on Monday, which is only four places worse than the best ranking of her career.
