Dalmacija News reports that the project for the Dalmacija Ultra Trail race has entered its final week of preparations which have lasted lasted over a year – tracing more than 300 kilometers of tracks, more than 2000 hours of work, and over 200 volunteers.

The Dalmacija Trails Association is behind the first ever Dalmacija Ultra Trail – an event for runners and adventurers willing to brave different running routes ranging from 20 kilometers to 165 kilometers. The longest route begins in Omiš and ends back in Omiš, traveling through every inch of Dalmatian territory. The trail will scope the setting of Dalmatia, trekking through famous mountains such as Mosor and Dinara and through river Cetina and Žrnovnica, to name just a few.

The route breakdown is as follows:

165km: Start in Omiš, finish in Omiš.

110km: Start in Klis, finish in Omiš.

60km: Start in Baška Voda, finish in Omiš.

20km: Start in Dugi Rat, finish in Omiš.

The Dalmacija Ultra Trail is not just a race, but also a definite promotion for Dalmatia as an ideal destination for outdoor activities, sports and competitions, adventure tourism and sightseeing. The project has worked with the local government units, tourist offices, and joined the local hiking associations, volunteer fire companies and cultural and artistic associations. The great help of residents and the parents of children and adults with special needs in Omiš even helped to create the race’s signal flags.

The Dalmacija Ultra Trail has already won ITRA points, which are points of the international trail associations – entering the list of the world’s most prestigious races.

Gaining ITRA points qualifies the Dalmacija Ultra Trail on the list for the UTMB (Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc), the world’s most famous trail race and a race that is regarded as the unofficial world championship.

From October 21-23, the Dalmatia Ultra Trail will kick off with more than 300 competitors from 31 countries, including many world famous names from the world of trail running. Slovenians Tony Vencelj, this year’s winner of the Valamar Trail 71 km and Marjan Zupancic, winner of 100 miles of Istria 2016 are among the male participants, along with and Lionel Triveni, winner of the Trail du Roc De La Lune 2016 – Ultra du Pas du Diable and third place in the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc 2015 -TDS.

Among the women participants will be Italian star trail runner Francesca Canepa, double winner of Tor de Geants, a race 320 kilometers long, winner of 100 Miles of Istria, and this year’s winner of the 4K Alpine Endurance Trail Valle d’Aosta, 350 km long race which overcomes the 25,000 meters in height.

Duje Lekšić Crv, winner of a series of local races, will defend Croatia on the 110 kilometer race.

Everyone is invited to come out, support the athletes, cheer and be the best of hosts.
