As TCN announced yesterday, Luka Modrić signed a new contract with Real Madrid which binds him to the Spanish club until 30 June, 2020. A press conference was held for the Croatian footballer this afternoon, giving the details to his contract and his relationship with Real Madrid.

Index.hr reports that under the new contract the captain of the Croatian National Team should earn 7 million euros per season.

“This is a special day for me,” said 31-year-old Modrić at the press conference held at Santiago Bernabeu. “I am very happy to have extended my contract with the best club in the world. I want to end my career at Real Madrid, and this signature is one step closer to that goal.”

The most difficult moment for Real Madrid?

“I think the injury I had in 2014. And the best? The title, of course. Especially Champions League, my favorite was in Lisbon.”

The goal this season?

“We want to win everything and to defend our title in the Champions League.”

However, one goal stands…

“For a club like Real Madrid, it is amazing that we have not won the title of Spanish champion for four years. This is a big priority for me this season.”

When asked about his current injury…

“I’m fine. I feel better every day. I am doing everything I can to come back as soon as possible, but I’m not sure when that will be.”

He recalled the difficult start at Real Madrid…

“I didn’t have a great start, but I always believed in myself. It took me forward.”

What has most improved for you at Real?

“My defense. Now I fight a lot more for the team. I have progressed as a player here.”

Many say that Real is not the same team without Modrić

“When people say that, then it’s a compliment and grows my confidence. Thank you all.”

His relationship with Zidane?

“Great coach. Even when he was the assistant to Ancelotti he had a great relationship with me. He helped helped me a lot when I was hurt.”
