The fans weren’t happy to see the match cancelled last minute, but some good came out of today’s postponement after all
The Rijeka-Dinamo match which was supposed to take place at Rijeka’s Rujevica on Sunday has been postponed due to unfavourable weather conditions, reports Riječanin on February 25, 2018.
The match was postponed because of a frozen pitch. Some 45 minutes before kick-off, the final inspection of conditions led the referees to call off the game, claiming the pitch wasn’t playable. The fixture is yet to be rescheduled for a later date.
While the fans who have gathered at Rujevica to support their clubs weren’t too happy to see the match cancelled – especially those who had faced dreary winter driving conditions to arrive to Rijeka – some good came out from today’s postponement after all.
All the matchday food prepared for the VIP attendees was donated to a local homeless shelter, The Rose of St Francis (Ruža Sv. Franje). According to Novi list, the shelter’s management stated the donation came in at the best possible moment, as the shelter is currently overflowing with residents who are seeking refuge from the winter cold.
The Rose of St Francis is appealing to all citizens of Rijeka able to make a food donation to help the less fortunate. The shelter is located at the church of St Romuald and All Saints in Kozala neighbourhood.
