Sandro Sukno returns to his home club Jug CO!
The world’s best water polo player will jump back into the pool after his career came to a halt in October last year due to heart problems. The great transfer bomb in the water polo world was announced on the official website of the famous Dubrovnik club on Friday, reports T.portal on August 31, 2018.
Jug first teased the news with a photo of Sukno’s sacred #9 cap, hinting that the water polo star is finally coming home. The club confirmed the news shortly after with the heading “Sandro is Coming Home!”
“We agreed quickly and I think that I should start training with the first team soon. We will see how everything will develop in the next few months. I hope that everything will be good because there is still a big break behind me. It needs to move slowly and be persistent and I hope this story will be positive and I will be able to play,” said Sukno on the Jug website.
“I’m extremely happy with Sandro’s return to his club and his town. We must not rush, we have to go through training so we do not have a time frame for his return to official matches. When he starts training, we will evaluate his condition and decide when it’s time to return,” coach Vjekoslav Kobešćak said after the signing.
The 28-year-old water polo player for Italian club Pro Recco was forced to halt all sports activities last year as he discovered heart problems. Soon after, Sukno and his club agreed to terminate his contract, and after a series of tests, the best solution for Sukno was a heart operation. With the help of the Croatian water polo team doctor, it was decided that Sukno would undergo surgery at the Cleveland Clinic.
As we learned from sources close to Sukno, the operation went just as planned, and was followed by a relatively quick recovery. Over the summer, Sukno began swimming and getting back into shape and was often seen with his friends playing water polo on Dubrovnik’s most famous beach.
Croatia water polo coach Ivica Tucak was the first to publicly state that Sukno would return.
“Sandro Sukno is coming back, and he will play at the 2019 World Cup in China.”
After Tucak’s statement, it was clear that Sukno would return to club water polo, too. Sukno’s most logical choice was the club in his beloved Dubrovnik, the city he returned to after terminating his contract with Pro Recco.
The photo of Sukno’s cap on the official page of the celebrated Croatian water polo club is just an introduction to the story that created euphoria in Dubrovnik. With Sukno, Jug has an opportunity to conquer Europe again.
Water polo fans are more than ready for the spectacular return of the world’s best water polo player; a return to the club where he began his professional water polo career after moving from Cavtat to Dubrovnik.
