The draw for the Croatian Football Cup semifinals has been announced.
The semifinals of the highly anticipated Croatian Football Cup will see matches between Dinamo and Rijeka, Lokomotiva and Hajduk, reports HNS on December 15, 2017.
The semi-final draw of the Croatian Cup was held this morning in front of the Competition Commission, chaired by Davor Ivić with members Željko Bel and Josip Brezni, and representatives of the clubs including Davor Bukovina (Dinamo), Slaven Marasović (Hajduk), Srećko Juričić (Rijeka) and Igor Cvetković (Lokomotiva).
The defender of the Croatian Cup title, Rijeka, will meet with the current leader of the Croatian First League, Dinamo, who both met in the final of the Cup last season. The second match will see a fight between Zagreb’s Lokomotiva and Hajduk Split, who played at Maksimir Stadium last weekend. Hajduk claimed the victory then with two goals by Frank Ohandza.

According to the calendar of the Croatian Football Federation, the semi-final matches are scheduled on Wednesday, February 28, 2018, which could cause quite a stir.
While having supporters from Torcida, Armada, and the Bad Blue Boys in Zagreb all on the same day would surely make for an organizational nightmare, the question remains whether Lokomotiva will be able to host Hajduk at Kranjčevićeva Stadium where the pitch is already in poor condition and construction is underway. If you recall, Lokomotiva and Hajduk had to switch the stadium from Kranjčevićeva to Maksimir last weekend due to an unplayable pitch.

The quarterfinals of the Croatian Cup saw a similar situation between Inter Zaprešić and Rijeka. Scheduled to play on Zaprešić’s home turf, the match was played at Rujevica because their pitch fared much better. Time will tell what Lokomotiva must do, and perhaps they even suggest the match against Hajduk be played at Poljud.
In any case, the winners of the semifinals, whenever and wherever the games are played, will meet in the final on May 23, 2018, in Vinkovci.
