August 2, 2024 – Martin and Valent Sinković, Croatia’s beloved Sinković brothers, have won the gold medal in the coxless pairs rowing discipline, bringing Croatia its fourth medal at the Olympic Games in Paris!
After Miran Maričić won the bronze in the 10-meter air rifle discipline, judoka Barbara Matić won gold in the category up to 70 kilograms, and tennis finalist Donna Vekić will take home a silver or gold medal tomorrow, the Sinković brothers achieved a new success for Croatian sports in a dramatic race in which they took the lead and the last meters. Their winning time was 6:23.66.
At the same time, the famous brothers became the first Croatian athletes since the country’s independence to win four medals at the Summer Olympics! In London 2012, they won silver with Damir Martin and David Šain, in Rio 2016 they won gold in the doubles, then changed their discipline and celebrated in coxless pairs in Tokyo three years ago.
This combination alone makes them unique. They have now cemented their sporting immortality even more by topping handball goalkeeper Venij Losert, who has gold medals from 1996 and 2004 and the bronze from 2012. They also caught the legendary Croatian canoeist Matija Ljubek, who won four medals for Yugoslavia – two gold, silver and bronze.
Bravo Martin and Valent!
