The media met with champion rowers the Sinković brothers to discuss the start of the new rowing season and the 1st World Cup in Plovdiv.

The first international rowing regatta in 2019 will be held in the Bulgarian city of Plovdiv from May 10 to 12. The regatta will feature crews from 24 countries with more than 300 athletes in the competition, reports Gol.hr on May 6, 2019.

Last year, Martin and Vaunt Sinković became world and European champions in the coxless pairs discipline. This year, the goal is to defend titles and at the same time qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

“We have clear goals and we cannot afford to fall, we must always be in the world’s top. We do not need ‘a priori’ to be the first, but results, times and placement must be competitive. Final preparations are always performed to the maximum, and we believe that this will come back,” said coach Nikola Bralić.

At the 1st World Cup in Plovdiv, the biggest competition will be Romania’s Marius-Vasile Cozmiuc and Ciprian Tudosa, who were last year’s World Cup vice-champions in coxless pairs.

“We will see the best form at the competition, but as far as training is concerned, we did everything in the best possible way, and there were no injuries, most importantly. We are also happy with our coach and ourselves, and the expectations are great. The Romanian World Cup finalists will be on the site, so there is good competition and it is an excellent test for the upcoming season,” said Valent Sinković.

“The goals are to fight for the gold at the World Championships. Through the race, we will see whether this is a realistic goal or not, but we hope to achieve that. We always go the maximum, every competition is important to us, and we never save ourselves! Weather conditions dictate a lot, good wind and a good track are needed, and if it is all sorted we will certainly go to the world record in this discipline,” said Martin Sinković.

The first race scheduled is on May 10 at 9:51 am. The semifinals will be on May 11 at 10:18 am, and you can follow the final race on Sunday, May 12 at 10:48 am.
