The Fight for Perišić: Will Inter Milan Sell the Croat to Manchester United?

Transfer news: Will Ivan Perišić ever make it to Manchester United?

The excitement about Croatian footballer Ivan Perišić has not stopped, and transfer news from both Italy and England is changing every day. But one thing is in question: Will Inter Milan really sell Perišić to Manchester United?

Here is what we know so far. Inter Milan needed to raise 30 million EUR to avoid a 7 million EUR sanction from UEFA for violating financial fair play regulations. Under pressure to raise funds, selling Ivan Perišić for a chunk of money sounded like the best option. Fortunately for Inter, they found a way to settle their debts, and selling one of their most valuable assets on the team doesn’t seem to be in the club’s best interest any longer.

It has been known for months now that Manchester United is after the Croat, and speculations only grew when Jose Mourinho was spotted in Zagreb during Croatia’s European Qualifier for World Cup last March. Perišić seems keen on a transfer to Manchester, and the winger would only be a big boost to the United squad.

Manchester United first offered the Italian club 30 million EUR for the Croat, which is half of what the Italian club initially valued him for (60 million EUR). United then followed up with a second offer of 32 million EUR. Both proposals have been denied.

It was pretty clear that United was trying to take advantage of Inter’s vulnerable financial situation when they put in their offers, but now that Inter’s debts have been settled, the transfer war for the Croatian winger continues.

International media including metro.co.uk and express.co.uk reported that United resumed negotiations with Inter just yesterday, but that the Italian club is not looking to budge on a hefty price tag of 50 million EUR for the Croat.

Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claimed that United was prepared to offer more for the Croat, but that it would not be close enough to Inter’s asking price.

“Despite getting past their recent Financial Fair Play issues last Friday, Inter may still consider selling Ivan Perišić. In fact, Manchester United continues to be in contact for the Croatian winger, but today they let the Nerazzurri know that while they will make a new offer, it will not be at their current asking price of €50/55 million. In addition, the new offer may not arrive immediately but rather be made later on,” reports gianlucadimarzio.com on July 3, 2017.

Will Inter end up accepting any offer good enough for our Croatian footballer? The saga continues.
