Alen Halilović has found himself in a difficult situation with Hamburger SV (HSV), the club he arrived at this summer from Barcelona, reports Index.hr.
In the eight rounds and six games played in Bundesliga, Halilović has been left without any goals and assists, and has spent just 137 minutes on the pitch. The coaches are changing, but the 20-year-old Croat has not been able to manage breaking into the first starting 11.
The only starting chance Halilović had was against Eintracht Frankfurt, but the performance so disappointed coach Markus Gisdola that he left him out of the roster for the next match in the Cup against the third league team – Chemnitzer FC.
Without Halilović, the team won 4:0 against Chemnitzer, and the coach explained to reporters why the Croatian national was not even on the bench.
“We played with two attackers, and on the bench I have players that can play in 10 positions, but we did not need a third creator of the game.”
German media also concluded that the 20-year-old Halilović was only the third choice for Gisdola, and since HSV has finally achieved victory, Halilović may stay in the stands on Sunday against Cologne.
