The Croat had a total of 80 unforced errors!
Croatia’s best tennis player Marin Čilić failed to advance to the fourth round of the US Open, reports Index.hr on September 1, 2017.
The winner of the 2014 tournament was defeated in the third round by number 33 in the world, Argentine Diego Schwarzman. The final score of the match was4-6, 7-5, 7-5, 6-4, lasting three hours and 23 minutes.

The number 7 ranked Croat and number fifth seed of the tournament won the first set 6:4, and then lost the next two in tie breaks. During the fourth set, Čilić lost 4:5, won 40:40 at Schwartzman’s service, but failed to break, therefore swallowing this shocking defeat and elimination from the competition.

Čilić played a poor match overall and primarily struggled with his service. The Croat also, unfortunately, ended the match with 80 unforced errors. In total, Čilić lost his serve nine times, while he had seven breaks.

Čilić is the fourth top 10 seed to exit the competition, and the tournament will now have a new Grand Slam Finalist.
The 25-year-old Argentine is through to the fourth round of the tournament for the first time in his career. He will face the number 16 seed Lucas Pouille next.
