Croatia Travels to UAE in March for First W Cup

January 8, 2024 – The Croatia national team will play the W Cup international tournament in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in March.

The Croatian Football Federation reached an agreement for Croatia to play the first edition of the Winsunited Cup, which will be held in the UAE from March 22 to 26, 2024, announced HNS.

Along with Croatia, the best African teams, Egypt and Tunisia, and the best team in Oceania, New Zealand, will participate in the tournament.

The semi-final matches will be played on March 22, after which the defeated teams will meet on March 25 in the 3rd place match. The semi-final winners will play for the premier biennial W Cup winner’s title a day later. Additional tournament information, including semi-final pairings and exact match times and locations, will be announced at a later date.

“We wanted to use March for this type of tournament, with strong opponents in one place, which was not easy to organize. However, the Croatia national team has a great reputation, especially thanks to the results of the past five years, and we managed to find an excellent solution where the parameters fit into what the professional staff led by coach Dalić wanted. The opponents are tailor-made, and staying in the Emirates will primarily serve to create quality ‘chemistry’ on and off the field ahead of the Euros in Germany,” said the president of HNS, Marijan Kustić.

“We wanted a tournament like this where we would play two good games because all the participants are quality teams. We will have excellent conditions for training and work, and we will primarily use our stay in the Emirates for ‘team-building’, as was the case in 2022 at the friendly tournament in Doha. March is an ideal opportunity for us to lay good foundations and create the right atmosphere for everything that awaits us in the summer in Germany,” said coach Zlatko Dalić.
