He announced his resignation in a press release saying he doesn’t want to be the reason why the success of the Croatian Football Association is constantly undervalued

Well, in all honesty, we thought this day would never come (at least not without a few court orders), and yes, it’s not April Fools’ today, but Zdravko Maic, the big boss of Croatian football, decided to resign as the Vice president of the Croatian Football Association on July 25,2016, HINA, Index, Jutarnji and Vecernji report.

Completely unlike him, Mamic did not call yet another grandiose press conference, instead, he announced his resignation in the press release which he sent out to all media outlets in Croatia. In it, he stated that he will now turn his attention to his own “private situation” (read as various investigations and court proceedings). He also added he is leaving so that the Croatian football can go forward without any disruptions and because “he does not want to be the reason why the successes of the Croatian Football Association are constantly undervalued”.

And even though, when he resigned from his post in Dinamo he clearly stated he will remain at the club as ‘an advisor”, he did not specify whether he will play a role in the CFF in the future.
Here is the entire press statement:

“As you all know, since January 2016, I have not been the executive president of FC Dinamo. I resigned because I wanted Dinamo, the club I swore by for years, to step into the future undisrupted. Now, for the same reasons and with the same sadness, I am resigning from my post as the first vice president of the Croatian Football Association.

I no longer wish to be the reason why individuals devalue the successes of my colleagues from the Croatian Football Association and Dinamo or the great results that have been bringing joy to our citizens for years. I don’t want my name to be used as an excuse to damage the reputation of Croatian football which serves us all proud with its work and results.

I gave my soul and know-how to Croatian football and I hope they will all continue to do fantastic things that the whole world will talk about. As for me, I will, in the future, devote my time to my own private situation and I am convinced that I will prove my innocence on all counts.

Croatian Football federation will, just like Dinamo, always have the most loyal supporter in me”. Mamic concluded.
