August the 14th, 2026 – Temperature records have been well and truly broken in three Croatian cities as the summer heat causes an array of issues nationwide.
Index reports that on the 12th of August, the City of Split recorded the highest air temperature since official records began. At the Split-Marjan measuring station at 14:00, the temperature reached a staggering 39.7 degrees Celsius.
According to official DHMZ data, this officially breaks the previous record of 39.5 degrees measured on the 30th of June this year. It still hasn’t broken the record measured back in 2017 at the Split-Kaštela meteorological station, which still stands at a horrendous 42.2 degrees Celsius.
HRT meteorologist Zoran Vakula reported that the record was also broken on the same day in Senj. 39.8°C was measured, breaking the 2015 record of 39.7°C. On the same date at 12:00 in Dubrovnik, 39.1°C was measured, breaking the 2025 record of 38.6°C.
