We’ve seen plenty of great benches this summer, along with some cool projects like the one with mosaic benches on Ugljan island and the hand-made benches on Zlarin. Where will the road take us next?

As I stated, the bench game is strongest on the islands, so it feels right to continue the winning streak with this lovely snap coming from Sali town on Dugi otok.

There are two types of people: one that takes a look at a weathered building and thinks the facade could use a new coat of paint, and one that stops for a moment to admire the rustic, melancholic feel to the scene. Some of us here lean towards the second type – we’re not advocating for letting architecture sink into decay, but there’s something about those patches of various colour and multiple layers of history visible on a single surface.

The gentlemen of Sali seem to have a similar opinion, as they like to gather on two stark white benches next to this beautiful old townhouse.

It’s not clear whether they just arrived or are preparing to head back home for lunch, but you have to admire the level of dedication to The Bench ritual. Look at how dapper they are! Crisp shirts, nice pants, jackets… No matter if you’re the suit-up kind or if you prefer comfy sports attire like the man on the left, one does not visit The Bench in worn-down clothes and mismatched outfits.

I’m especially fond of that lone wolf on the right, who stepped aside for a smoke and a pensive gaze into the distance.

Thanks to Robyn Vulinovich for the lovely photo.
