Central Dalmatia Tourist Board Statement on Fires in Dalmatia

Total Croatia News

A press release from the Central Dalmatia Tourist Board director Josko Stella on July 18, 2017, regarding the fires in Dalmatia.

Thanks to the superhuman efforts by hundreds of fire fighters, members of the army and volunteers, but also the organisational efforts of the hosts, none of the 170 thousand tourists who are currently staying here have been in danger. This is why we would like to express our gratitude to everyone who has helped fight the fire.

There are currently around 40 thousand tourists in the area that was affected by the fire and everything in the tourism sector is running smoothly. There haven’t been any cancellations or cases of guests not showing up, but we have received numerous phone calls and e-mails about the status of the roads, provisions and the fire, from tourists who are yet to arrive from different parts of Europe. Around one hundred tourists from some ten apartment buildings in Podstrana have been evacuated on time and at no point were they in danger, all thanks to Podstrana Municipality Tourist Board. We have received a few more reports of individual evacuations, but, overall, all our guests are safe and are not in danger.

To conclude, all tourists who have been located in the areas near the fire have been warned and evacuated on time, and they haven’t faced immediate danger. Once again, on behalf of the entire tourism sector, I would like to thank our heroes – fire fighters and everyone else who helped put out the fire.
