Croatia Nominated for Travel + Leisure’s 2016 Destination of the Year

The famous American travel magazine Travel + Leisure has announced their 17 nominees for the best destination of 2016.

Travel + Leisure is travel magazine based in New York City, New York that has more than 5 million readers. For the past two years, Travel + Leisure has anointed a destination of the year – nominating the countries or cities they have closely watched and covered with fascination as they have gone through “irreversible changes”.

Seventeen Travel + Leisure editors have shared their choices for the best 2016 destination, and Lila Battis, Associate Editor for the magazine, shares why she chooses Croatia.

“With fantastic food and wine, an abundance of historic sites, and bone-white beaches, Croatia has something for every traveler—and since appearing as a frequent Game of Thrones backdrop, it’s more in-demand than ever. Stroll the port cities of Dubrovnik or Split, which have all the beauty of King’s Landing without the risk of Wildfire. Just a short boat ride from Dubrovnik you’ll find the craggy cliffs and waters of Lokrum, where Qarth scenes were filmed. And the town of Sibenik has so many soaring cathedrals and medieval fortresses that you won’t even miss the Titan of Braavos statue.”

The first Destination of the Year was won by Myanmar, and the title in 2015 was awarded to Cuba who had just opened up to American tourism.

You can vote for Croatia as the best destination of the year, see who else has been nominated, and check back on November 14 to see who T+L has deemed the winner!
