Delicious! It’s Almost Time for 3rd International Tripe Fest

May 28, 2024 – Kapelica kod Garešnice is about to become the centre of the world once again, hosting the third international tripe fest, also known as fileki or škembići in Croatian. Love it or hate it, it’s being served this Saturday, June 1.

As Ribafish writes, tripe is the kind food poor people would be left with after paying their taxes to the church and feudal lords. And as it happens, these days when we are all looking to organic wines and ancient recipes, there is a craze going on for tripe throughout the region. For this very reason, the Andri family, owners of the restaurant Kod Bake near Garešnica, have been organizing the international Tripe Fest “Volim Fileke” for three years for all fans of this delicious dish.

At the press conference held on Monday, May 13 in the Bundek Park in Zagreb, under the leadership of the legendary host Branko Uvodić, the Festival was announced by Zdravko Andri, Danijela Crnjak Andri, chef Branko Ognjenović, coordinator of the Wine Exhibition Nika Gelo, and director of TZ Kutina and Kutina Deputy Mayor Ivana Grdić .

In a pleasant atmosphere, with warm tripe and barbecue for those who don’t like them, the journalists and guests all enjoyed the fine dishes and learned that Day T is Saturday, June 1, the site is the Kod Bake restaurant, the maximum number of teams in the competition capped at 30. Teams from continental Croatia, Dalmatia, Zagora, Zagorje, Serbia, Hungary and for the first time – Slovenia have registered!ž

The jury consisting of Rene Karaman, Branko Ognjenović and Domagoj Jakopović Ribafish (at least one more international member is also expected) has already started with the preparations and can’t wait to start cooking.

“We hope that this year’s Festival will be full of fun and joy, just like the first two editions. Baka is not participating in the competition, but it will be possible to order tripe dishes in the restaurant, as well as everything else on the a la carte menu,” said the owner and organizer Zdravko Andri, and knowing the quality and commitment he, Danijela and the Kod Baka team provide – we’re in for a treat, both fans of tripe and all others as there will be a rich offer of non-tripe dishes.
