Some SPAs in Croatia are moe eco-friendly than others, and today their efforts will receive the official recognition of their peers.
Eight Croatian spas will receive “Sustainable Spa” certificates on April 20, 2016, following several months of extensive assessment confirming that they apply sustainable green standards in all business segments
Out of 11 spas in Croatia, eight will receive the first sustainability certificates issued by UPUHH (Association of Employers in Croatian Hospitality) which will be presented a ceremony in Zagreb today. The spas hat will receive “Sustainable Spa” certificates are: Sv. Martin na Muri, Terme Tuhelj, Varazdinske Toplice, the Veli Losinj health resort, Terme Jezercica, Istarske Toplice, Bizovacke Toplice and Daruvarske Toplice.
“All these spas met our very demanding criteria for certification and I believe that this will be beneficial, not just because it will bring in more guests from markets where this has long been applied, for instance, in Scandinavia, but also because it will increase their competitiveness and income,” UPUHH director Iva Bahunek said.
Recalling that UPUHH had conducted similar certification for hotels, Bahunek noted that this new SPA certification is the continuation of the “Green Business in Hospitality” project that UPUHH launched in 2012 with the aim of defining criteria and introducing so-called green business operation in hotels to raise the competitiveness of Croatian tourism.
To date, 42 hotels in Croatia have been awarded Sustainable Hotel certificates and last year we launched the certification of spas, which was aimed at introducing green business in spas by the end of last year, Bahunek added.
She added that the hotel industry introduced the aspect of green business practice in 1990.
