Exploring the Zadar Region: Adrenaline Water Sports on Zrmanja River

Total Croatia News

Continuing our look at the attractions in the region of European Best Destination Zadar, TCN’s Sarah-Jane Begonja gets active on the Zrmanja River on March 5, 2016.

Spring is coming, I can tell as the flowers are beginning to bloom, well that and the fact that people in the neighbourhood are all foraging for wild asparagus, and I am jealous I can never find them!

Spring is grand for a few reasons, and one of them is not spring cleaning! Instead of cleaning I am bookmarking this event Spring on the Zrmanja River, which is being held in the Zadar Region.

If you want to join us this spring you can spend a weekend, rafting, kayaking, cycling, hiking or even exploring a cave. The 3-day event centred around the Zrmanja River will be held on the 29th of April through to the 1st of May making it the perfect weekend away.

The added bonus is that the Riva Rafting Centar based in Obrovac will be reducing their prices by 50% for all activities on offer over the three days.

The event previously known as the Croatian Rafting Regatta – Zrmanja, has been running for the past ten years and has become a huge event in the area. Last year there were over 350 rafting competitors with over 500 spectators cheering them on. This year the program has been expanded to include many other adventure based activities and targeted at ‘average Joes’ like you and me, so that more people can get involved.

I spoke to Lana the Sales & Marketing Manager for Riva and she enthusiastically and very proudly explained “We use every opportunity to promote our region, its canyons, sports, and programs. Zrmanja is a beautiful river, and so we offer this in order to bring everyone closer nature – even if you think you’re not the “nature type” you’ll enjoy the river.

Spring on the Zrmanja River activities include:

Rafting
Kayaking
Paddling school
Stand up paddling school
Hiking tours to the Krupa Canyon, Modrić cave or Cerovac Caves and
Boat tours along the Zrmanja River
Cycling

The Zrmanja River is 69km long, and its basin covers an area of 907kms. The river is crystal clear and runs through a towering canyon, which is known as the “stone arena”. It’s the perfect place for those that love nature with a dash of adventure. No previous rafting or kayaking experience is needed so long as you can swim, and Lana also recommended the event for families as kids are very much encouraged to participate.

Come and explore the area that is often referred to as The European Grand Canyon. It’s highly recommended that you book in advance or contact them on 00385 23 689 920.

See you on the river.
