How Many Croats Actually Want to Work in Tourism?

Seasonal jobs include a number of occupations that are in demand, for which employers will already begin searching for potential candidates early this year. MojPosao, the leading portal for advertising job vacancies in Croatia, has conducted a survey to see just how many of us in Croatia are interested in working in the tourism sector.

The survey was conducted with more than 1,200 respondents. Here are the results, as reported by HRTurizam on January 19, 2017.

Most respondents (27%) who work in tourism see it as a good opportunity for extra profit.

“I have mostly financed my studies working during four summer seasons, and now, after graduation I will go back to work my fifth season to finance my departure from Croatia,” says one of the respondents.

26% of tourism workers see jobs in tourism as a good opportunity for permanent employment. This is particularly for those who have chosen tourism as their type of study.

“Tourism is the future, thus it is a good opportunity for long-term employment and advancement,” said one of the respondents, with the second adding that the “continuity of work is important for good performance”.

However, an equal number of respondents (26%) who work in tourism see it only as a final option – a last resort if you cannot find another job.

“For seasonal work it is essential to have not only physical fitness but also mental. You are exhausted and pushed to the limit, without a day off, and when you add it all together, you have a ridiculous schedule for 17-19 kuna,” commented one of the participants.

21% of the subjects said that they were not interested in jobs in tourism at all.

“Non-stop opening hours, questionable payments of agreed wages, inability or inadequate accommodation,” are just some of the reasons why respondents were not interested in a job in tourism.

All in all, if you are interested in seasonal work, MojPosao is organizing a virtual job fair that will allow employers and seasonal jobseekers direct communication and faster realization of employment. You can find more information here
