June 21, 2023 – Pleternica gallops forward, this weekend with the International Pleternica Equestrian Tournament on the schedule. The local racecourse is becoming the centre of all attention. And with good reason – it is hosting the largest equestrian tournament in the history of Croatia.
“This year, a record number of countries and horses will participate. At the moment, there are about 170 guest horses in Pleternica. The camp itself is twice as big as last year, which speaks volumes about the scale of the tournament”, said Domagoj Katić, director of the International Equestrian Tournament CAI Pleternica.
A step up compared to last year’s tournament is the cooperation with the Hungarian Equestrian Association, which will run one round of its league in Pleternica. Since this organization is the absolute top in this sport, the cooperation spectacularly contributes to the Pleternica Equestrian tournament.
Added Value of the Pleternica Equestrian Tournament
“I also want to point out that there are almost 300 people who are staying until Monday and will spend their money here in Pleternica. This is an added benefit of the tournament itself in terms of tourism. The tournament is additionally important as a qualifying tournament for the world championship. As for the participating countries, I am happy to share that one of the participants travelled a long 1,500 kilometers from Greece to Pleternica”, Katić added.
In addition to the aforementioned Greek participants, our regular guests are here – from Slovenia, Italy, Hungary, Serbia, Austria, and, of course, Croatia. Riders Matej Bello and Stjepan Matijević are defending Croatia’s national colours.
The Programme
“As with every event, we have again gathered our associations, institutions, and companies to offer additional content. On Friday, we can enjoy a little book picnic – Knjignik, organized by the Croatian Library and Reading Room, for all children and adults. Moreover, on the same evening, there will be a concert by Slavonske Lole and a night race, one of the most attractive events.
On Saturday and Sunday, the tournament will continue with the sports programme. We have also prepared a playroom for the little ones and a souvenir shop. The local associations will present at the fair. We would love everyone to come; check out what we have going on here. Socialize, have fun, and enjoy a fantastic weekend out.
